Last year, the airport recorded 266,000 takeoffs and landings
In 2017, 37.7 million passengers embarked and disembarked at GRU Airport-São Paulo International Airport, representing a 3.2% increase in relation to the movement of passengers in 2016, which was of 36.6 million. Of this total, 23.7 million (63%) were from domestic flights and 14 million (37%), of international flights.
In 2017, the highlight is the international segment, which had an increase of 3.6% compared to 2016 and obtained your record in number of passenger movements. In the domestic sector, the growth was 2.9%.
Flights -For the movement of aircraft, last year, the airport operated 266,016 flights-retraction of 0.5% compared to 2016, when were recorded 267,491 takeoffs and landings.
Record -GRU Airport registered your first record in the first four weeks of the year. The day January 13, the airport had 49,345 handling international passengers (including boarding, landing and connections). It is the highest volume of the year so far.
Already in aircraft movements, on the same day was registered the record for takeoffs and landings like 235 international flights. The day January 28, 234 flights were recorded. Before these two numbers, the previous record was 233 flights, registered the day 15 July 2017.
History -On the last day of January 20, the GRU Airport completed 33 years of operation. In this period, already more than 561 million passenger movement, which gives an average of 17 million passengers a year. More than 5.7 million of takeoffs and landings, with annual average of 172,000 aircraft movements per year in this period.
Evolution is remarkable in these 33 years. On the first day of operation of the airport, on 20 January 1985, for example, only three aircraft landed in Guarulhos. The first was the Boeing 747-400 of Varig, from New York. The others were an Airbus A300, Vasp and the last a Boeing 767-200, Transbrasil. Currently, the GRU Airport operates approximately 730 takeoffs and landings a day and some days more intense, as the 22 December 2017, when the Airport received the historical record of passengers in a single day, 138,000, and also the aircraft movement , with 928 takeoffs and landings.
The largest in the world -GRU Airport receives daily, the two largest passenger aircraft in the world. The A380, Emirates, and the Boeing 747-800, Lufthansa, land and take off every day by the GRU Airport, taking, on average, each, per flight, about 500 passengers to Dubai and Frankfurt, respectively.
The day January 16, exceptionally, the GRU Airport received three aircraft A380 of Emirates – on account of a maintenance of an aircraft. They were positioned in the courtyard along with the Boeing 747-8 of Lufthansa, in a rare opportunity to see the world’s largest, at the same time.
This was only possible because the company held a series of investments in the system. The circuit was adequate to ensure the safety of the aircraft, being extended the landing/take-off and taxiing.
Future -The level of evolution of the airport was only possible thanks to investment in infrastructure since the company went on to participate in the management of the GRU Airport in February 2013. At this point, the improvements in the construction of the Passenger Terminal 3 and Terminal 2 modernization project, which added 23000 m ² of operating area (check-in, x-ray, passport control, baggage claim refund) and 4600 m ² of spaces commercials, starting with 90 stores to more than 270 operations.
The goal now is to start the new cycle of works to achieve, at the end of the concession, the ability to receive more than 60 million passengers a year. To reach this level, the company plans to some works in various sectors, with emphasis on a new aircraft, courtyard with planning for 2019, the new Pier at Terminal 3, to 2021. In addition, there are projects for other new patios until the end of the lease.
About the dealership
On day 6 of February 2012, the consortium formed by the companies Invepar (Investimentos e Participações S.A. infrastructure) and ACSA (Airports Company South Africa) it was announced the winner of the auction for the granting of the Guarulhos International Airport, the largest the country, with movement of about 37.7 million passengers in 2017. For a value of R $16.2 billion, the consortium won the right to administer the Guarulhos airport for a period of 20 years, until June 2032, in addition to investing the nominal value of $6.5 billion in the period R.
With the signing of the contract was formed the concessionaire of the Guarulhos International Airport S.A., with 51% of the shares belonging to the Group (Group Invepar and ACSA) and 49%, to Infraero. Of the 51% of the private sector, has 80% participation Invepar and ACHSAH, to 20%.
