The restaurant is located on the ground floor of the hotel, on site at the city’s main Avenue, Avenida Paulista and Consolação Metro Station, whose movement can be seen through large windows and outdoor tables if the weather is clear. The Gran Via holds breakfeast, a lunch buffet and still houses an area with a balcony for informal moments and happy hour with a view to the avenue.
Sober decoration features the restaurant as cozy and discreet in its setting. The most attentive service is operated by Mr. Adonário, who together with the Chef Anderson Gonçalves are in Gran Via for more than a decade.
At the entrance to the restaurant is the hotel’s bar with a relentless balcony from where come special drinks such as Lemon Spritz, one of the most requested.
The formula is composed of
- Limoncello liqueur,
- Prosecco and
- sparkling water
- As the liquor is denser hangs out under, so it is recommended to move to provoke the ideal mix.
The drink has a refreshing effect with some acidity to maybe follow the couvert or entries.
The gastronomy of Gran Via can be described as a contemporary cuisine with Chef Specials. The Menu consists of some creations using mainly French cuisine techniques and some with the signature of the Meliá network. Maybe that’s why some of the top restaurant dishes contain great seafood.
The couvert showed a zuchini preparation with cherry tomatoes served with toasts and butter.
As a suggestion to start the meal, a fresh salad and a hot cream.
The colourful Hearts Salad is a mixture of irregular pieces of Lettuce Hearts, artichoke hearts, splinters of smoked salmon and Special Sauce. An interesting detail is that the restaurant supplier of vegetables, at the request of the Chef, always brings the baby leaves and sprouts of other PANC’s that are also used in assembling the salads and other dishes. A tiny detail that makes relevant difference to the salad. Besides of being part of the dish decoration, the baby leaves brought somewhat of freshness and care to the preparation and they taste really good.
The entrance was a hot cream of Carrots and baby Spinach . The highlight here was the texture contrast of Spinach leaves that look like thin delicate tapes immersed in cream between the lines and drops of olive oil, very welcome to enjoy this recipe, by the way.
The nice Mr. Adonário watches Diners in the choice of wines to accompany the main dishes. The wine list, despite leaner was prepared to accompany the menu options. To the chosen dishes, the recommended wine was the Chardonnay Gran Mar, a white Argentinean, from Mendoza.
One of the chef suggestion was the flamed shrimp with mashed sweet potatoes. In this preparation Chef Anderson contrasts the relevant spicy shrimp marinade, with the unconcerned sweetness of the puree . In addition, the tuber features a vibrant color that lights up in the presentation of the dish.
Continuing on the course, another recipe presented was one of the Meliá Specials, Meliá Paellero, which consists of Seafood Rice with saffron. A showy dish, which exhibited a good amount of squid, shrimp and clams in spicy yellow rice. The execution was accurate and not enough seasoning to extrapolate anything.
Both dishes were very happy pairing with the chosen wine, fruity as many of the New World Chardonnay, in this case a hint of pineapple in your freshness.
Time for dessert, two classic recipes of great acceptance.
Brownie with Brigadeiro syrup and ice cream. Well executed brownie, fine quality chocolate for this Brazilian syrup along with the refreshing touch of ice cream.
Bourdaloue Pie Meliá, a delicate preparation, where pear is prepared in wine, in this case Cabernet Sauvignon, and it comes accommodated on creamy almond cake; a subtle precious flavor to end the meal with excellence and beauty.
The set location, the cozy ambience, the service and cuisine of the restaurant Gran Via are definitely a prominent option in the region of Paulista Avenue.
